RM Machinery announces the installation of the RMGT 970 ST 5+CC+SLD equipped with LED UV to Extreme Graphics Inc. of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. The press was installed in March 2025 and quickly assumed 50 percent of the company’s overall print production.
Founded in 2007, Extreme Graphics offers a wide range of printing and in-house finishing services. It turned to the RMGT 970 ST 5-color press to primarily print full-color magazines, which are then saddle stitched, perfect bound or coil bound in the company’s 12,000 sq. ft. facility. The RMGT 970 ST was the perfect 38-inch press for Extreme Graphics’s needs for a reliable press that offered consistent color quality at rapid speeds.
The RMGT 970 ST 5’s quick makereadies and automatic plate changing capabilities have allowed Extreme Graphics to increase its overall capacity and complete more jobs at a faster pace. “We used to work up to 12 hours a day,” said Javier Maldonado, CEO and owner of Extreme Graphics. “Since we had the RMGT 970 installed, our production time has been reduced to eight hours a day.”
While many in the industry carry the perception that it’s more economical to allocate shorter runs to digital presses, the team at Extreme Graphics has proved that the RMGT 970 ST 5 is profitable for any run length—even one as short as 250 copies of a single magazine. Extreme Graphics’s high margins can be attributed to the press’s ease of use, requiring only one operator. “RM Machinery trained our staff; three can operate this press, but it only takes one. The other two are on reserve in case one employee goes on vacation.”
A legacy Mitsubishi customer, Extreme Graphics has been relying on RM Machinery for parts for years. Strategically located and fully stocked, RM Machinery’s warehouse is second to none making timely deliveries to printers in Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico. “RM Machinery knows what part we need before we do,” said Maldonado. “They’re that good at troubleshooting. Choosing RM for the next machine was a no-brainer for us.”
Extreme Graphics employs 21 individuals and has a high retention rate—many of the employees have been with the company since its inception. Maldonado’s experience with graphic arts dates back to his childhood when he learned the trade from his father and spent his summers working immeasurable hours at his family’s printing plant. As owner of one of the most prominent printing companies in Puerto Rico, Maldonado stresses the importance of building meaningful and helpful relationships with his customers. "We don't want our customers to think of us as another supplier. We want them to see us as a business partner, one that they can rely on to help them grow their business. We like to think of ourselves as an extension of our customers' workforce, working at an adjacent support department."
Time is everything for a printer. And now that Maldonado has more of it, he is able to spend the extra hours he gained from installing the RMGT 970 ST 5 by making more sales calls and securing additional business.
